Sprinkler and Lawn Renovation

Comprehensive

Project Overview

Upgrading sprinklers is a significant part of our work, and often costs much less than installing a new system. When a system isn’t operating efficiently, we can typically upgrade and repair it instead of starting from scratch—exactly what we did here.

The lawn was struggling at this property, and the sprinklers were no longer functioning as effectively as they once did. We installed articulated risers and taller pop-ups, sinking them beneath the lawn to avoid any damage. We also added pop-ups for improved coverage, as the existing sprinklers didn’t provide sufficient reach.

To enhance efficiency, we installed Waterwise rotating nozzles that distribute water more evenly, cover a greater area, and offer better adjustability. After that, we top-dressed the lawn, applied fertiliser, and made minor service repairs at the front, including replacing a few sprinklers and upgrading the nozzles to higher-quality ones.

The property owner supplied the lawn and soil, while we provided:

• Labour
• Reticulation parts for the installation and servicing

Below, we’ve included an itemised list that details:

• The materials used
• The total number of parts and cost
• The labour involved in the project

This should give you a clearer picture of what was done and what could be achieved with a similar project. However, please keep in mind that every job is different, based on the unique conditions of the property and the requirements of the system.

Material Costs Labour Total GST
(excluding lawn and soil): $900
  • Reticulation Work (10 hours): $2,000
  • Lawn Installation and Top Dressing (6 hours): $1,200
$4,510 $410

The Renovation

Rear-Lawn Sprinklers Upgrade
  • Converted the existing sprinklers to 100mm Rainbird Seal-A-Matic Pop-Ups.
  • Equipped them with articulated risers and MP rotator nozzles for enhanced performance.
  • Added sprinkler in the centre and relocated an existing one to optimise coverage.

Note: The existing pipe positions presented some challenges, requiring adjustments to our initial plan. Despite this, the job was completed. The sprinklers have been fine-tuned to overspray into the garden beds, providing extra watering where needed.

Front Yard Improvement
  • Installed two taller sprinklers to resolve issues with the two lowest sprinklers in the front yard.
  • Elevated them using articulated risers for improved performance.
  • Converted the remaining nozzles to Waterwise MP Rotators for more efficient water distribution

Note: Standard pop-ups were used to match the existing setup.

Lawn Enhancement
  • Installed new sections of lawn provided by the client.
  • Top-dressed and fertilised the entire lawn.

Note: To maintain even backyard levels, periodic light top-dressing is recommended.

Tip: MP Rotators typically deliver 10mm of water per hour. It’s recommended to run them for an hour during the hottest months of summer. Additionally, during peak summer, a weekly hand-watering session may be needed to maintain a consistently lush lawn. Be sure to monitor soil moisture and select the right fertiliser for your specific lawn type.
