Let’s Create a Beautiful Garden Together

At Retic Renovation and Native Gardens Perth, our mission goes beyond simply doing quality work. We care about our customers. We listen, we take the time, and we create thriving gardens that improve the quality of our clients’ lives.

Every project is done with care to achieve the best result for your garden — but more importantly, our goal is to create a space that makes daily life feel more enjoyable and your home feel more special.

But don’t just take our word for it — hear what our clients have to say.

Sometimes people say: “I really don’t need a design, I just want a quote.”

In response I always ask: What outcome are you after? What’s your endgame? What result are you hoping to achieve?

If it’s just a quote, that’s fine. There are plenty of businesses that will give you that.

But if you’ve reached out to me, it’s probably because you want more than just a number. The outcome you’re after is likely a really beautiful garden — one that’s functional, high quality, and exceeds your expectations.

That’s exactly what our process is designed to deliver. We don’t compromise on that, because we know it’s the best way to give you the results you’re after.

Why Design Matters

Creating beautiful native gardens is a step-by-step process because plants don’t stay small. Our goal is to envisage the mature garden. That’s where design comes in. Plants grow quickly, create shade, and change the conditions around them. Different plants have different needs for space, light, and soil.

Layered Garden

Taking careful time to plan the garden — how it will look from different viewpoints, and how it will mature over time — is a time-consuming but essential part of the design.

This is what the design phase gives you: it ensures that your garden is going to thrive and make sense in the years to come, not just look good on day one.

What We Focus On (and What We Don’t)

Our work is focused on softscaping — creating thriving gardens with native plants, soil improvement, mulch, steel edging, and natural materials. We often incorporate features like recycled railway sleepers, recycled red-brick paths, crushed limestone, and natural stone to complement your garden.

We don’t take on large structural works such as retaining walls, gazebos, patios, pools, fencing, or major hardscaping projects. If that’s what you’re after, we may not be the right fit. But if your goal is a carefully designed, natural garden that feels cohesive and long-lasting, that’s exactly what we do best.

Our Landscaping Process

Step 1. Initial Consultation
$350 incl. GST

This is an on-site meeting to walk through your space, talk through your goals, and start understanding what’s possible.

For very simple jobs like a new lawn with reticulation and edging, I can sometimes provide a quote at this stage. But for most native garden projects, the consultation is just the beginning — the real ideas come through the design phase once I’ve had time to consider everything properly.

Your consultation is the first step in creating a garden that works for you. It’s usually around an hour on site, and it’s a chance for us to start building a clear picture of your project.

During your consultation, we’ll cover:

  • A general discussion about your goals, vision, and how you’d like to use your space.
  • Site analysis — looking at sun and shade patterns, soil conditions, and any challenges we need to factor in.
  • A walkthrough of your property, noting existing features and potential opportunities.
  • Broad conversations about different landscaping concepts and what might be possible.

What you won’t get from your consultation:

  • All the ideas needed for your landscape design then and there. One hour passes very quickly, and this stage is about listening and gathering information.
  • A complete design layout or plant list. The detailed ideas come during the design phase, once we’ve had time to carefully consider everything.
  • Hours of pre-researched concepts before we even meet. The consultation is about understanding your needs first, so the design phase can be tailored properly.

This way, you’ll leave the consultation with clarity and direction — and we’ll have everything we need to move into the design phase, where the creative work really happens.

Step 2. Landscape Design Fee Quote

After the consultation, I’ll prepare a quote for the design work. This fee covers the planning and time needed to create your design, but it does not include a quote for installation. The purpose of this stage is to confirm the cost of developing your design before moving further.

Step 3. Approve the Design Fee Quote & Design Your Garden

Once you approve the design fee, we move forward with creating your garden design. This is where the detail really matters: individually working out where each plant should go, considering heights, widths, colours, and seasonal impact, and matching those with your goals, the natural setting, and your home.

We also incorporate natural elements such as gravel, sleepers, recycled red brick paths, limestone, crushed fines, and other materials that suit the space. While we don’t take on structural building or heavy hardscaping, these natural features are an important part of our gardens and are carefully planned into your design.

Step 4. Garden Installation

When the design is finalised, I’ll provide a detailed quote for the installation. This covers everything required to bring the design to life — soil preparation, reticulation, plant supply, and natural materials.

Step 5. Installation & Completion

With everything approved, we install your garden with care — from soil preparation and reticulation to planting. Every detail is handled properly so your native garden can establish well and flourish into maturity.

How Much Does a Quality Landscaping Installation Cost?

A lot of people assume a native garden can be installed for $5,000–$10,000. The reality is, a proper job costs more — because it’s not just putting plants in the ground. Every step takes time, skill, and the right materials.

Here are some of the key elements involved in every project:

Several native plants in a Perth garden
  • Plants – Even a small 50m² area can need 100+ plants. At $20 each, that’s already a few thousand dollars before you even factor in trees, special orders, or the labour to plant them

  • Site preparation – We typically remove 200mm of old soil, then replace with 100mm of premium soil and 100mm of mulch. For a 50m² area, that’s 10m³ in and 10m³ out. For a 300m² area at 200mm deep, that’s around 60m³ out plus new soil and mulch in.

  • Reticulation – Many people come to us because other landscapers did an okay job with planting, but the reticulation let them down. We’re known for meticulous systems: all wiring in conduit, articulated risers, dripline laid properly, and full coverage guaranteed.
Soil and mulch preparation
  • Soil and mulch – We don’t cut corners here. Typically at least 100mm of soil is added, often in different mixes for different plant types. Mulch is laid thick to protect plants, stabilise ground temperatures, and reduce evaporation.
Levels and edging
  • Levels, edging, and natural materials – It takes time to ensure plants, mulch, soil, lawn, pathways, and edging all sit at the correct heights relative to each other.
Planning, design, project management
  • Planning, design, and project management – Beyond labour and materials, there’s careful thought in every step: soil levels, shade patterns, plant positioning, and long-term growth.

As a general guide:

  • Smaller projects usually begin from around $20,000–$30,000 upwards.
  • A full front yard native garden is often in the $30,000–$50,000+ range, depending on soil prep, plants, and materials.
  • Front and back yard projects typically range from $50,000–$100,000+, but every job is different.

In practice, most projects we deliver start at around $20,000 and above. The exact cost always depends on your site, your goals, and the level of detail involved. These figures exclude design costs, which are a separate step.
Well-designed native gardens can use less water than traditional gardens, which not only saves you money on water bills — but native gardens are also more suited to Perth’s hot, dry climate.

Our Goal

What matters to us is that you’re still thrilled with your garden years down the track — not just when it’s first planted. That’s when we know we’ve done our job properly.

Which areas are you looking to landscape?

What's your budget range?(Required)

Every garden is different, and costs depend on soil preparation, reticulation, and the number of plants involved. Most native garden installations, even small ones, begin from around $20,000–$30,000 upwards, excluding design. There are exceptions, of course.

A lot of people don’t factor in everything needed for a really high-quality job — excavations, soil improvement, reticulation, the right selection of plants, design, materials, and more.
